WHAT IS SHIATSU?
Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy which has evolved from Eastern philosophy and medical theory. It is based on the understanding of energy flowing throughout the body in specific patterns called meridians. When these are in balance, health and vitality are restored. Mind, body and spirit are all addressed.
HOW DOES SHIATSU WORK?
In a Shiatsu treatment, pressure is applied to points along the meridians to release the flow of energy. The amount of pressure is always determined by the patient. Through this release of tension and creation of relaxation, Shiatsu sessions will gradually effect a strengthening of the body’s resistance to disease.
Tight muscles, pain, disease and mental, emotional or physical stresses can all impede energy flow and weaken the function of inner organs. Shiatsu aims to influence the Autonomic Nervous System which relaxes tension and regulates organ function. Thus, the body’s natural healing is stimulated.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
You will be asked about your health history and records will be kept of your visits. The Shiatsu therapist will treat you on a table. You should wear loose, comfortable clothing. Sessions are usually 30 or 60 minutes in length.
Most people feel relaxed, looser and sleep well as a result of the treatment. Some may experience tiredness, muscle stiffness or headaches that will pass in 1-3 days.
WHY SHOULD I HAVE SHIATSU TREATMENT?
Shiatsu treatments seek to alleviate pain and discomfort. They can bring relief to numerous conditions such as: asthma, arthritis, high blood pressure, digestive problems, circulatory problems, gynecological problems, migraine and tension headaches, insomnia, neck and shoulder pain, low back pain and stress.
Even if you have no physical problems, Shiatsu treatments can help you maintain good health by addressing imbalances before they become major health problems.
